Root Canal Treatments
Traditionally, if your tooth had a diseased nerve from either extensive decay, cracks or it had experienced trauma at some point in time, you would possibly lose that tooth. However, at Walloon Dental we have utilized modern technologies that now allow us to do a painless procedure called a root canal in order to save the tooth and avoid extraction. There is a misunderstanding that root canal treatment is painful. However, like every other dental treatment, pain can be eliminated and discomfort minimized through gentle care and use of modern equipment and treatment methods.
Generally, root canals are performed over 3 visits. However, this may vary depending on individual circumstances.
- Visit 1: Nerve removal & dressing the tooth with special medications.
- Visit 2: Shape and clean the canal/s inside the tooth and assess the response to medication.
- Visit 3: Fill the canal/s with an inert material.
Finally, the Dentist may suggest a capping or crown is placed over the tooth to prevent any future infection or breaking down of the tooth. The above process is a simplified summary of what can be complex treatment. However, the dentists at Walloon Dental will strive to keep you relaxed and informed all the way and, if required, may consult an Endodontist (root canal specialist) to ensure you receive the best possible outcome.
