Children’s Dentistry

At Walloon Dental, we’re passionate about helping children establish a positive relationship with their teeth from the get-go. Most dental issues that occur late in life, such as gum disease and tooth decay, can easily be prevented if good oral hygiene habits are established early on. It’s important, therefore, that your child is introduced to our friendly team from a young age.

At Walloon Dental we participate in the Child Dental Benefits Scheme (CDBS) which provides Medicare funded dental treatment to eligible children aged between 2-17 up to the value of $1000 over 2 calendar years. Walloon Dental bulk bills all eligible CDBS services meaning there are no out of pocket costs to you. Some of the services that can be provided include examinations, x-rays, cleans, fissure seals, fillings, root canals and extractions. There are currently no CDBS benefits applicable for cosmetic or orthodontic work. the dentists at Walloon Dental strongly believe in this scheme because it allows us to provide regular checks, cleans, preventative treatments and oral health education from a early age without the added burden of out of pocket costs. This ensures our patients develop ideal dental habits that ultimately lead to a lifetime free of dental problems.

Making Your Child’s Trip to the Dentist Fun and Positive

It’s not uncommon for many people to feel anxious or stressed before a visit with the dentist, and to put off the appointment as long as they can, often to the detriment of their dental health. This is why it’s so important that your child’s first trips to the dentist are fun and positive, so they don’t grow up fearing the dental chair.

The best way to achieve this is to have them come in to see one of our dentists early in their development, before any issues with their teeth have occurred. The Australian Dental Association (ADA) recommends that children first see a dentist when their baby teeth erupt or when they turn one – whichever comes first.

We like to deal with the simple things on their first visit, which is why it’s great if it’s just a regular check-up. It gives us the opportunity to build a relationship with the child and familiarise them with dentistry in a fun and playful manner.

As a bonus, they’ll get to play with the controls and go for a ride in the chair! And after the appointment, we have a special treasure chest from which they can choose a present. The aim is to make them feel comfortable and relaxed at the clinic and develop a trusting and friendly bond with their dentist and the assistant.

Medicare Child Dental Benefits Scheme

Under the Medicare Child Dental Benefits Scheme, children between the ages of two and 17 are entitled to $1000 in free dental benefits over two calendar years. At Walloon Dental, we have chosen to bulk bill those who are eligible under the scheme so that there aren’t any out-of-pocket expenses up to the $1000 limit.

Fissure Sealants

When bacteria find their way into the grooves or fissures of a tooth, they can kickstart the process of tooth decay. Sealants are thin plastic coatings that protect the tooth from such occurrences, and applying them is a quick and painless process.

Filling and Crowns

Even when we practice good oral hygiene, cavities can occur anyway. Make sure to book an appointment with us as soon as you suspect your child has developed a cavity, so we can limit the extent of tooth decay and get their healthy, happy smile back quickly.
