Dental Check-Up and Clean

In combination with brushing and flossing, dental check-ups and cleans are the best way to maintain oral health. Regular trips to your dentist can prevent major dental issues, saving you time and money in the long run.

It’s recommended that you see your dentist every six months for a dental check-up and clean. The appointments generally take around 30 to 40 minutes for regular patients.

Dental Check-Up

A dental check-up involves a little bit more than simply looking at your teeth! During the appointment, your dentist will go over any concerns that you have, conduct a dietary and hygiene assessment and do a thorough examination of your jaw, gums, tongue, throat, face and neck. They will then inspect your teeth for signs of cavities, cracks, infections or excessive plaque build-up.

At Walloon Dental, we believe that education is power, and we want you to have a thorough understanding of your oral health and control over your treatment. If dental work is necessary, we’ll go over the treatment in detail and explain why it’s required.

With your input, we’ll create treatment plans for areas that require addressing. This allows us to tailor the plans to your timeframe and budget. If further work is required, we’ll usually book you in for another appointment for the treatment to be carried out.

New Patients

With new patients, we take the time to address any concerns you may have and take an in-depth look at your mouth and oral health. If we feel like not enough time remains for a scale and clean, we’ll book it in for a future appointment.

Dental X-Rays

X-rays may be required as part of a comprehensive examination of your mouth. X-rays give us a detailed picture of your teeth and pick up signs of infection or decay long before the naked eye does. We want to find these areas of decay before they grow large enough to be seen without an x-ray! With x-rays on file, we can also track and monitor any changes in your mouth over time.

Dental Clean

Your wonderful dentist will scale and polish your teeth to remove stains, plaque build-up and tartar. They do this by using special ultrasonic tools and a gentle, abrasive polishing paste. It’s much more effective than when you brush your teeth at home.

After the treatment, your teeth are smooth and shiny, and new plaque find it harder to stick to the slick surface. If you have a heavier build-up, or periodontal disease (gum disease), multiple visits may be required.

Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride is applied to your teeth at the end of the appointment to strengthen the enamel. Please make sure you wait 20 minutes after the fluoride treatment before eating or drinking.
