Going to the dentist can be a bit of a chore for adults, let alone children – so today let’s take a look at some ideas you can implement to make your child’s dentist visit fun, rather than painful!
1. Start Young
If you bring your children in to the dentist when they’re young, we’ll be able to keep an eye on potential issues earlier, and your child will become used to the dentist. As a Children’s dental care specialist – we know with experience that the longer you wait, the worse it can be!
2. Check Your Language
A big part of people’s resistance to the dentist is psychological – and the words we use to describe issues can be a trigger. For younger children, we recommend using a different set of vocabulary so they don’t get spooked – have a look at the great list the team at Polished Dental have sent over to us:
Anaesthetic – sleepy juice- Certain drills – tooth ticklers
- Suction unit – mini vacuum
- Tooth cleaning agents – tooth shampoo
- Decay – bugs
- Fillings – stars

3. Distraction Is Key
We have a treasure chest of toys kids are able to choose from, they can even take one home if they have a good appointment. Many children actually look forward to their visit to the dentist for this reason.
We also give you a Polaroid picture to take home once the kids’ teeth are sparkling again.
Lastly, we have TVs on the ceilings showing your kids’ favourite shows like Paw Patrol or Lego which can make the dentist a lot more fun.
4. Be A Morning Person
In our experience kids are at their best in the morning before they get tired out – if you bring them in shortly after breakfast and they need anaesthetic (sleepy juice!) they won’t have to worry about eating while numb which can be a little frustrating for young ones.
